The
BIO-EARN Programme (2006-09) will operate nine projects, comprising four
research for development (R4D) projects, one policy project and
four innovation fund projects.
The
four R4D projects (Projects
1-4) focus on improved crop
productivity of sorghum, cassava and sweet potato and efficient
treatment of high-strength wastewater and utilization of industrial and agricultural waste
for bio-energy and value-added production. The policy project (Project 5)
aims to
strengthen network institutions’ ability to manage and
develop complex collaborative projects and contribute to an
enabling environment for R4D, technology adaptation and
diffusion. This project will also assist the eastern
Africa region to pool skills, craft policies and develop
strategies for the development of a sustainable bio-resource
economy.
