: Enhancing
product development opportunities and policies
The aim of this project is
to enhance product development opportunities and
supportive policies by creating an enabling environment
for biotechnology product development, transfer and
diffusion. The project is expected to deliver on IP
management frameworks, policies and strategies; material
transfer, research and collaborative, agreements and
mechanisms for new partnerships for product development
and dissemination among others
This project is implemented by 8 scientists from Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH), Ethiopian Science and Technology Agency (ESTA), Kenya National Council for Science and Technology (NCST) and Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST) backstopped by Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI). The project is also retools key personnel on policy issues through short courses.

Implementation Status
The recommendations of the
IP/FTO studies have resulted in the putting in place of
IP management frameworks in some network institutions,
such as IP offices, IP policies and strategies. This has
improved knowledge and access to IP support services
such as information on patenting, material transfer, IP
policies and regulations, research and collaborative
agreements by scientists in the BIO-EARN R4D.
