BIO-EARN is pleased to announce a Call for Concept Notes

BIO-EARN's Innovation Fund aims to support top quality 'research for development' project proposals in product development.

The objectives of the BIO-EARN Innovation Fund are to:

  • Support innovations which have strong potential to lead to sustainable economic growth through commercially viable start-up companies or the expansion of existing commercial activities

  • Use the Innovation Fund as a tool to develop new Biotechnology Research and Development of high quality with high strategic value to the region.

Go to: Call for BIO-EARN Innovation Fund Concept Notes (Closing date 30 June 2007)

The Innovation Fund will support projects that have generated research outputs with potential commercial value in which the IF will support product development e.g. proof of concept, small and large scale pilot testing, scaling up the production of the product and setting up demonstration plots/pilot plants. Commercialization could also be supported where appropriate. The key principles /concepts, which applications for the IF have to capture, should include technology/process generated from sound and strategic research, regional/international collaboration, integration of at least two BIO-EARN thematic areas and a team that adequately addresses all stages leading to and including product development amongst others.

The Innovation Fund aims to further strengthen the ability of BIO-EARN network partners to build functional linkages, and technology diffusion pathways for disseminating strategic technologies/ products generated within the BIO-EARN research consortia.

The Innovation Fund Proposal provides detailed information on the genesis of the Fund, the process for reviewing concept proposals, timelines, and the scoring and evaluation criteria that will be applied.
